2024 Austrian Silver Philharmonics – mint sealed box of 500
Since its initial release in 2008, the Silver Philharmonic has become Europe’s best-selling silver coin. These beautiful coins, minted by the Austrian Mint (Muenze Oesterreich), each contain one oz. of .999 fine silver. As of this writing, Silver Philharmonics have also become one of the most popular coins in the U.S. This is due to their gorgeous design, meticulous and consistently high minting quality and their affordable premium compared to other government minted bullion coins.
The “Silver Phils” pay homage to the legendary, world renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (and not the late great American comedian and actor, Phil Silvers). Their obverse (front) features an immaculately crafted depiction of the Great Pipe Organ of the Golden Hall in the Musikverein (Vienna’s concert hall). The obverse also states the year, weight and nominal face value of the coin. The reverse of the coin depicts an array of orchestral instruments – a French horn, four violins, a cello, a harp, and a bassoon.
The design for the coin was originally created by Thomas Pesendorfer to be used for the gold Vienna Philharmonic that was first issued in 1989. The Austrian Mint introduced the silver version of the coin in 2008. The design has remained unchanged for both the gold and the silver coins.
