After a week or two of a roller coaster ride, we’ve had a relatively stress free week for metals. As noted earlier, Platinum appears poised for take off. I’ve seen nothing to counter last week’s theory on where Platinum could be headed.

As noted earlier, wholesale premiums continue to go up. We have actually lowered our already tiny margins a bit to keep your prices low, but our cost is rising (five wholesale increases over just the past 15 days!).

Why is this a good thing?

In as few words as possible, “supply and demand”.

The steadily declining spot prices had greatly reduced demand over time. However, since silver approached $14/oz recently, many people have perceived this price threshold as “the bottom” and the demand has increased dramatically. With so few people able to make a profit selling with the current bid price at $14.25, supply has all but dried up nationally. When demand outweighs supply, prices have historically risen. And really, isn’t that what we all want? For the value of our silver (and gold, platinum and palladium) to go up? Yes! That is certainly what we all want.

Side note: pl ease, don’t forget how good we’ve had it. At the peak of silver prices, premiums on 90% silver got up to $5.99/oz above spot. The fact that we’ve been able to sell “junk” silver for less than a dollar above spot for the past couple of years is remarkable. We’ve been spoiled, but it looks as if that party has ended.

All that said, we are still offering Roosevelt Dimes and Washington Quarters as low as $1.49 above spot and Mercury Dimes, Walking Liberty, Franklin and 1964 JFK halves for as low as only spot +$1.99 over spot.
